“How can I support you? How can I support Black Creatives?” Like many, Black Creatives, my DMs have been FULL of questions like this in the past weeks.

In between being enraged at the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and the countless others whose names we don’t know AND and dealing with life in the middle of a whole pandemic, we’ve choked out answers like:

“Immediately you can donate to bail funds, call your politicians, educate yourself, and vote,” I’m trying not to lose my shit right now, please check my highlights for resources, and “donate to funds aimed at dismantling systemic racism and take stock of the people you work with and for.”

There’s no perfect answer because fixing racism in this country isn’t as simple as checking one box. And it’s not going to be fixed overnight.

But as creatives (and people who work with creatives) there’s one approach we can take … only financially support Black people and our allies. If you believe Black Lives Matter, stop supporting people and businesses who don’t.

hill creatives, hire black creative

We’ve been saying this for a while, but now that you’re listening … if you want to authentically serve a diverse audience, you have to work with a diverse team. And since we’re on the topic, if you want to “walk the talk” when it comes to anti-racism...

Support Black Creatives by Hiring Black Creatives.

And not just because it’s what “you’re supposed to do” in this environment but because diversity has a long standing effect on your wallet.

Companies with more culturally and ethnically diverse leadership teams are 33% more likely to see better-than-average profits. Diversity on a team inspires innovation, faster problem-solving, and better decision making. With multiple voices in the room you are able to consider unique points of view and get to the right answer more quickly.
