Of course you do! You want to skip steps. No one wants to spend all of their time researching what document creator to use or what book most helps cure the lack mindset (just read them all). Below I have compiled of the tools I use to automate my biz, fuel my body, nourish my mind, and the dope team of ladies I keep around me.
My hope is that something in this list gives you at least 30 minutes of your life back. So instead of researching or emailing back and forth to schedule all your appointments, click, sign up/buy, and breathe.
Business Tools to Automate & Organize
When it comes to business tools, the key word is automation. At the very least, business tools should make something way easier. The ROI (return on investment) should greatly outweigh the cost of the tool.
The tools in this sections are things that I sign-in or touch every single day. They are things I can’t do without and wouldn’t imagine trying.
Hello, Email Marketing Copywriter here! Of course the first item on my list is an email marketing tool! Three reasons I love Convertkit: analytics, total control over the style of emails, and sequences.
Three reasons you should love Convertkit: a free template to beautify your email templates, watching your subscribers grow in real-time via the net subscriber graph, and the opportunity to connect with your people.
If you’ve ever asked if you need a contract the answer is HELL YES. I want you to stop using that Franken-contract that you cobbled together by Googling and instead use a contract built for creatives by the Contract Shop.
You need one less thing to worry about.
If it was between Hulu and Honeybook, Hulu would get the ax everytime. Honeybook is the tool I use to organize the formal parts of business, i.e. proposals, contracts, and payment.
Having everything in one place is a feeling you don’t know you’re missing until don’t have to wait on a Paypal transfer to your bank account or how to get a contract signed digitally.
If you have a WordPress website, what webhost are you using. Sure you can use any old $4 a month host but you get what you pay for. You may be paying to not get customer service or (more importantly) to have a website that is slow or decides to crash. If you’re on WordPress I suggest using a dedicated WordPress host so that you have a more reliable experience for your people and all the bells and whistles for you.
Not only are Google Docs perfect for collaboration and version control, Google Hosted email is the #1 legitimization tool you have for your biz. Yes, you can host your email via your webhost but that means you’re okay with emails that take 20 minutes to be delivered. For $5 a month, you deserve to have the peace of mind that you’re not missing out on money making emails.
How’s Friday at 3p? What time zone are you in? What about two Tuesdays from now? Stop doing all this madness and get an appointment scheduler.
I pay a few bucks a month to schedule different kinds of appointments but you can get started for free.
Business Tools for your Mindset
Your first person hire doesn;t always have to be a business coach. In fact, it might need to be a therapist. So often women struggle with things like asking for money, wanting money, acknowledging their work and skills in ways that men just don’t. These are key skills in business building and you can’t succeed (truly succeed) without building up the skills to conquer them.
I don’t have a therapist’s number to give you but I do have tools to share that help me blow past my limiting beliefs and dream bigger.
Money Mindset Course by Becky Mollenkamp
Does any of this sound like you?
- “I think about my bank account and break out in hives—it’s that stressful.”
- ‘I see other people living it up, and inside I’m screaming, “Why not me?”’
- ‘I feel like I can’t make more money, and it feels weird to even think about being “rich”’
If so, that sucks. It’s also no way to run a biz. This 28-day email course helps you feel good about money. There’s a touch of woo but mostly it helps you get ish done.
The Universe Has Your Back Affirmation Deck by Gabrielle Bernstein
‘Use all of your tools’, that’s the gist of a statement I heard from another mindset author and it really stuck. You should employ every prayer, meditation, ritual, mantra, and affirmation that you have to your goals.
These cards help me do just that. I frequently find myself shuffling them at my desk and landing on the exact one my heart needs to hear. Or the one my mind needs to hear to get kicked in gear.
Also, they are seriously gorgeous.
You’re a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
If you go into any Facebook group for female business owners and ask what book they think you should read next, 98.76% of your recommendations (super scientific, I know) will be this book.
It’s just that good. It’s the story of a 40-something writer who was living paycheck to two paychecks from now. And then she got her shit together. And now she’s a coach and living the life she deserves, not just the one she is mildly brave enough to live.
Abundant Affirmations Deck
When it comes to using all the tools, I use all of them. This card deck is one of my go-to’s when I need a snappy affirmation about why I’m great and deserve more.
There are more cards coming in the series (like a self-worth deck) and I’m pretty sure I’m going to treat them like Pokemon—gotta catch them all!
Lucky Bitch by Denise-Duffield Thomas
This was my reintroduction to audiobooks. DDT’s bubbly personality and awe-inspiring manifestation stories will make you believe in the power of God, His Universe and everything in between. She tells stories of wanting something, setting her mind to it and getting it-good, bad, and ugly. But mostly great.</p<
Get Rich, Lucky Bitch by Denise-Duffield Thomas
If Lucky Bitch helps you up your manifestation game 2X, Get Rich, Lucky Bitch ups it 777X. For DDT, her story is all about leveling up after conquering her wildest goal yet (winning a 6-month honeymoon travelling the world). This book isn’t about winning a money-minded mindset. It’s about growing the tools to conquer it again and again.
Self-care is part of your business. You cannot pour anything great from an empty cup. I automate my biz, I work on my mindset but none of these things would be complete if I didn’t take care of my body. These resources may just look like they are helping me look good (my trainer), helping me pamper myself (Sunday Prep Co.), or an expensive luxury (Moon Juice) but they are all part of the machine that keeps me moving forward and not stuck repeating the same battles.
Sometimes you just need to pour a massage oil candle on your sore post-workout thighs, diffuse harmonic essential oils, and sip a bit of Sex Dust Latte, amirite?
Sunday Prep Co.
Massage Oil Candles & Aromatherapy Products
Sunday Prep Co. started as an outlet for my hands and it’s turning into something so much more. I’m slowly developing this line of products to make self-care easy for biz babes who give a damn about their work and their well-being. The line currently includes massage oil candles, massage oils, and bath salts in three different categories.
The anti-tension blend
Choose this when you’re sore, stressed, or all of the above.
The passion blend
Choose this when you need a little extra pep in your step.
The night time blend.
Choose this when sleep is calling (or it should be).
4th Quarter Performance
In 2017 I gained what I call the work from home 20. This was to go along with the I’m an adult metabolism which already mean a few extra pounds which were jussttt kept at bay with a 5 day a week barre routine. Being 5’3” and overweight means teletubby status with even a few extra pounds. When January 2018 rolled around I made (and stuck to) a resolution to look like a person and not a children’s television character.
With the help of a trainer/nutritionist I shed 35 pounds and got my spirit back. If you’re in Atlanta and looking for your own body (and mind) transformation, you need him in your corner. If you’re not in Atlanta, check out his online program.
Herbs & Supplements
Adaptogens are bae. Adaptogens are plants that can help you arm your body for battle. It can help relieve stress, provide boosts in energy, ease you to sleep, and more. If you’re look for a one stop shop to get started with them Moon Juice is the perfect place to start.
Their Moon Dusts fit right into your regular routine. You can add them to tea, coffee, smoothies, oatmeal, etc to get the boost that you need. Of the 6 Moon Dusts, my three favorite are Spirit Dust (anti-stress), Brain Dust (for focus), and Sex Dust (for boost of creativity).
Everything But Oils Decks
Essential oils make me happy. They smell good, pep me up, and help me sleep.
These card decks helped me figure out which oils to choose when. There are two kinds of decks a) a master deck to learn about all the oils and an aromatherapy edition that helps you target how oils make you feel.
Herbs & Supplements
Mushrooms are the hottest superfood out there right now! Four Sigmatic is leading the charge to share the goodness of mushrooms by having a plethora of mushrooms that for different purposes. My absolute favorite is their Reishi Elixir for sleep. It’s so strong that I fell asleep drinking it (instead of spending 20 minutes staring at the ceiling fan whirl).
